Dental x-rays work by creating an image of the denser parts of your body, such as teeth and bone, revealing dental problems that may not be apparent to the naked eye. We use x-rays to detect and treat various disorders, such as cavities, infections, misalignment and decay, in their early stages.
Digital Dental X-Rays
At Affinity Dental, we use digital x-rays. Not only do digital x-rays require less radiation, but they also provide instantaneous transmission of a picture of the tooth on a video monitor. By viewing the digital x-ray on the monitor, the patient and our dental team can view the results immediately. By using digital x-rays we can detect problems earlier and provide treatment before you feel the symptoms.
Taking a dental x-ray takes just a few minutes and doesn´t hurt. Minimal amounts of radiation are emitted in the process, as x-ray machines are strictly regulated by the FDA. If you need a dental x-ray and are pregnant, let us know and we cover you with a lead apron to shield radiation.
Depending on your age and level of dental health, the FDA recommends getting a dental x-ray between every 6 months and 3 years.
